Legal Aid in the Magistrates Court

At the Magistrates Court

You will be entitled to legal aid if

(a) You are under 18 years of age.

or

(b) On income support.

or

(c) On income based job seekers allowance.

or

(d) On guaranteed state pension credit.

or

(e) On income related employment and support allowance.

Otherwise it will depend on your net income once certain deductions have been taken into account. If you are then left with £12,475 or less you will receive free legal aid.

If you are left with £22,325 or more you won’t be eligible but we can still help you.

If your net income is between £12,475 and £22,325 then it will depend on the money left after paying your main bills. If you get less than £3,398 (£283.17 a month) you will get free legal aid. Any more than that and you will need to pay us privately. But we will always try to help you.
